An assessment requires your child to enter the swimming pool with an instructor to show off their swimming skills through a few simple activities depending on their ability. Our swim supervisor will then assess your child's level within our program.
While there, we'll explain why we've assessed your child at at their selected level and what we'll work towards to improve their swimming.

If your little one is ages 6–18 months, we'll book them into our Lil' Squirts classes. If your toddler is ages 18–36 months, then Big Squirts will be the class for you!
It's especially important for younger children that they arrive for lessons with plenty of time to get ready in a relaxed manner. If you are relaxed, then so will they be!
At In The Deep we really make full use of our half hour lessons from start to finish, so please try to make it on time. Children will miss out on important skills, even from the start of class. Our teachers also appreciate punctuality as it can be very disruptive to the flow of our classes and our other students.
Apart from complying with pool regulations, wearing a cap during swimming lessons has many benefits:
Keeps children's hair out of their face when learning
Keeps children warmer during lessons
Keeps hair from clogging the filtration system, so our water is cleaner!
We sell a range of caps to suit all needs.
Children who are starting to place their face under water for long periods will benefit from wearing goggles due to the drying effect that chlorinated water can have on the eyes. As we also believe it to be important for all children to be comfortable under the water without goggles we do encourage swimming without goggles also, and discourage the use of goggles in Squirts classes.
Vorgee goggles are available for purchase from The Juniors Fitness Centre. If you are unsure of which goggles to purchase, please come see our staff for advice. We are more than happy to assist here as a bad pair of goggles can ruin many a swim lesson!

All children under the age of 3 years are required to wear an approved swimming nappy. Bands around the leg area must be wider than 15cm.
Little Toggs Happy Nappies and Never Working Mondays swim nappies are available for purchase from the pool in various, gorgeous styles you will love!
There are many swimwear options out there to choose from...
Bikinis
Board shorts
Swim briefs
Rash shirts
One piece costumes
Wetsuits
We recommend one piece costumes for girls and swim briefs for boys. Also be aware that the chlorine in the water will shorten the lifespan of most swimwear. It is a very good idea to rinse all swimwear in tap water as soon as possible after your lessons.
We also do not recommend the use of wetsuits in classes as this will effect your child's natural buoyancy in the water and can give them a false sense of security. Rash vests on older children can also get in the way when learning strokes as it will hinder the children's feel of the water especially with long sleeves.
In The Deep provide all necessary learning equipment during lessons. We also supply flippers for squad levels.
Junior Squads are requested to provide their own hand paddles.
